What Dion Fortune & Mom Knew: The Biblical-King Arthur Connection

“I commend the study of the Christian mystic too, for it is a part, and a very vital part, of the contacts with the Keltic Churches in these islands,” wrote Dion Fortune in her magisterial work, Aspects of Occultism

“The sweet stories of those old saints teach humility and devotion and the quiet contemplation of the hermitage; but the Arthurian legends bring in the contact of beauty, and the high courage of the Quest.”[1]

I am a lifelong Christian. I am also an Esoteric Indo-European. I have been since birth, long before I knew the term.

I do not think these two things are exclusionary.

Dion Fortune’s words above describe my feelings exactly.

DION AND MOM

As I reflect on my formative years, the childhood times in which the brain is in a perpetual Theta Brainwave state, I see how my dearly beloved Mother nurtured these things within me. King Arthur and the Bible alike.

Dion Fortune reminds me a lot of my Mom, who very sadly, passed away. If you read the opening chapters of her book, Psychic Self-Defense, and you know my Mom, you will be shocked at the similarities in personality and experience.

And if you see Dion Fortune’s picture of her young on the frontispiece, reproduced above, and you knew my Mom, you will be shocked at the similarities.

Both are Sagittarius Sun Signs on the Western Zodiac.

Dion Fortune was an Englishwoman from the Edwardian Days. My Mom was a Blue Collar GenX girl from Southern Illinois. Each used very different language to explain their beliefs, as you can imagine!

But at the end of the day, they both had the same morals, the same code, the same mission.

They were spiritually and physically strong women with an abundance of knowledge on the ways and means of human nature. And they always helped everyone in their care.

THE 10% TRAP

In reading the above passage by Dion Fortune, I was struck that it is the most Biblical thing one could say.

Many Christians would be shocked to hear such a statement.

But let’s be honest.

Most Christians in the Protestant variety only read 10% of their Bibles, the 10% they are told to read by their leadership. So they don’t even know what is in their own Scriptures.

The reality is, this is a very unbiblical thing to do, for the Bible teaches in 2nd Timothy 3:16-17, NIV Translation, that:

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Note that it does not say “10% of Scripture that your Pastor gives you on Sunday is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the Servant of God may be minimally equipped for a few good works.”

Sadly, many Esoterics involved in Indo-European Studies steer clear of Christianity. They do it often times because they are exposed only to this bastardized form of Christianity.

But if they look for themselves, they will find a great treasure for the Spiritual and Warrior Caste Souls alike

LET THE BIBLE SPEAK FOR ITSELF

The Bible clearly praises the Archetypes of Hermitage and Knight alike that Dion Fortune describes in the Keltic and Arthurian varieties respectively.

Just read Hebrews 11:1-2, 32-39 in the GNT Translation of the Bible for yourself:

“To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see. It was by their faith that people of ancient times won God’s approval…

“Should I go on? There isn’t enough time for me to speak of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets. Through faith they fought whole countries and won. They did what was right and received what God had promised.

“They shut the mouths of lions, put out fierce fires, escaped being killed by the sword. They were weak, but became strong; they were mighty in battle and defeated the armies of foreigners.

“Through faith women received their dead relatives raised back to life.

“Others, refusing to accept freedom, died under torture in order to be raised to a better life. Some were mocked and whipped, and others were put in chains and taken off to prison.

“They were stoned, they were sawed in two, they were killed by the sword. They went around clothed in skins of sheep or goats—poor, persecuted, and mistreated.

“The world was not good enough for them! They wandered like refugees in the deserts and hills, living in caves and holes in the ground.

What a record all of these have won by their faith!”

IT MIGHT LOOK VERY DIFFERENT

So there you have it, my friends.

Whether you it is Hermitage or Knightdom that calls to your soul, know that God loves you.

He puts dreams and visions in your heart for a reason, unique to you, and has a special mission for you on this earth.

Don’t let a corrupted Spiritual Caste tell you what you can and can’t read.

Go read it for yourself.

God’s Truth is available for each of us to discover and see.

And when you find it, it might look very different from what everyone else thinks!

Keep on keeping, my friends!

Sincerely,

Richard Barrett
